Dr Mike Knoeckel grew up in the Colorado high country. After high school, he spent years cowboying, shoeing horses, guiding pack trips and pounding nails. Eventually he decided to go back to school, heading to The University of Colorado for a BS in MCD Biology with honors and Phi Beta Kapa admission followed by his Veterinary Degree from Colorado State University in 1986. He spent the next several years in general Veterinary Medicine, working in Arizona, Colorado and Alaska, eventually heading back to school where he completed a residency program in Neurology and Neurosurgery from the University of California - Davis in 1994, achieving board certification in the Americal College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in the subspecialty of Neurology.
Since then he has been practicing Neurology and Neurosurgery in the DC area. He is settled in the Falls Church area with Teri and 4 Aussies: Tanner, Sophie, Stella and Penny, to keep him busy in the hours away from the hospital. He enjoys his time with the dogs, playing music, outdoor sports and occasionally a fine red wine or bourbon.
